New works from the SEA!

WARRINGAH ART PRIZE
TODAY: finishing off my Warringah Art Prize entry... it's been a year of work on this one... HINT? I was a finalist last year and it's a follow on with that concept.
You may think you know but there is a surprise :)
INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT CONFERENCE
I am also busy putting together my workshop for the Environmental Conference here in Sydney. LOADS of fun there... more details very soon and I'm happy to say the pieces for my section of the exhibition are really coming along well. Look out next week for a brand new series. I'm getting so excited about this... I know I've been quiet exhibition wise this year and as I said in December, I really needed to say lots of nos in order to give this my full attention. This after all is what my art work is all about. I have always believed the true beauty of art is to speak the passions of people. Mine is looking after our environment and what is already here. But you already know that ;)
  New_header1

Soooo.....Want to give a huge prompt to everyone to start looking at places like Reverse Garbage here in Sydney and other ways to recycle when you are doing things. I often see people suggesting ebay, etsy ect, which I admit I do turn to for elusive little pieces... but I know a lot of you who read my blog make craft items along with art and  ask you to think recycle or reuse first and to do it LOCALLY. These types of places are wonderful. Sometimes you have to think a little outside the box and you may have to adjust your ideas but you won't only be saving money, you will be saving our environment too.
Reverse Garbage
If you are a Facebooker... their page is awesome as they actually list interesting new things.
The main webpage is great too and has links to Facebook ect.
If you are not in Sydney, do a search for similar place, your local council is a great start!
More ideas soon :)
Oh you want a sneeky peek at New Work? lol Come back tomorrow! ;)

Bear with mE!

Will be playing catch up this week... but on no a Military Ball and a friend's welcome home Fabulous Bollywood party two nights running :O
I know one things for sure a certain sculpture called "Perception" needs to be completed and how!
Cockatoo Are we ready for the LOCAL Birds exhibition??!! Hope so. (scroll down the post on link)
Opening Night is Thursday 14th July.
I'm loving seeing the amazing ways our theme is being interpreted. Aren't artists fun?!
If you missed out on being in this one... don't worry, I have plenty more group exhibitions up my sleeve.  For quick updates, join me at facebook ... link bottom right hand side of this blog.
Don't forget this is in support of the amazing Manly Environment Centre. We might be a 15min drive from it but they look after the waterways and environment we all use and are there for everyone.

BIG Art Prize news coming soon.... now THAT is a lot of work... but I'm very very exciited about it.
It's something I have a real 'thing' about and I'm so happy to have met someone with the same excitement over the project.

And I'm thinking of getting Zentangle Workshops/nights going... there aren't any on the Northside so mmmmm a fun thought.  Such an EASY art thing to do no matter what, even if you can't 'draw a straight line' and loads of meditation relaxation included. The applications are endless.  I snuck some into my Solo exhibition last year!  I'd go to Zentangle groups if there was one here.... soooo looks like I have to make one.
YES I know one more thing!.... but what is life for!?

Art Space @ Yindela NEWS 26th July 2011

HELLO!
Well what a busy busy week! Need more of Glenn's Fair Trade awesome coffee.
Question: "Do I have to have an official invite to go to Opening Nights at Yindela Street Cafe?"
Answer: "Nooooooo... just come along. It's casual, it's relaxed, it's fun and you get to meet YOUR local artists."
OPENING NIGHT SABRINA LAYOUN
After saying farewell, only for a short time, to our vibrant Angela Van Boxtel (she is coming back for "Local Birds"), it was time to set up Sabrina Layoun's exhibition "Everything Will Be Just Fine", now until 13th July. I was so moved by her title and the emotion in her work is just brilliant. Have so enjoyed watching this young artist progress to her very first show. Sabrina tells us she is very inspired by the work and life of Marcel Duchamp, which brings me to his gem "I do not believe in art. I believe in artists."
Sabrina "Sub" sold two of her four works on display at her Opening night. Congratulations. A hot young artist indeed.
EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES
Most of the artists who have approached us at Yindela have worried about their suitability. "Is it good enough?" We are not a high end gallery and yet we are not a cafe looking to decorate the walls, hanging work and forgetting about it for 6 months. We believe in artists and we believe very strongly in supporting emerging artists through a dedicated program of exhibitions and a growing structure and network (including this blog).
So is it good enough? Well if you are creating works and you are passionate, dedicated and growing, yes it is. We are not here to judge. We are a community art space that is offering knowledge, support, experience, opportunities, connections with other artists, collectors and the local community. Now we are are also offering Opening Nights for those interested, no extra costs involved and full support our our curator and cafe owner. Finger food is available at very reasonable rates if required. Although we offer one wall, we are happy to rotate your artworks during your two week show, to replace sold works and to display as many additional works as you please on easels (floor and table) throughout the space on opening nights.
I have been flooded with inquires over the past few weeks and I have found that I've missed a couple, if you haven't heard back from me please try again. Most seem more interested in 'later' in the year and at this point we are now pretty booked up. We do have spots for the next few months.

The Mermaid Muse and exhibition update!

Gem3 EXHIBITIONS
The past year has been all about two VERY important exhibitions I'm involved with in September. Recently I've shared images of some of my work for my exhibition space at the International Environment Center Conference which will feature Australian Wildflowers and Wildlife. VERY excited and there are a few favourites you can see again as I've been able to loan them back for this occasion. I am also holding free workshops and demonstrations... will be  awesome!
The second is an exhibition with Pete Christie entiled "Where Land Meets Sea".
Both exhibitions follow on from my work of many years which feature found treasures and forgotten waste in our environment that I've collected on my walks and hikes.
Last year my Manly Arts Festival exhibition body of work and my Warringah Arts Prize Finalist sculpture looked at our beautiful bush. My Fairy of Warringah was created from pieces collected from the bush tracks of the area.  As most know this year (because you keep buying my pieces BEFORE the exhibition!) I've concentrated on our seas, oceans and waterways, inspired by my work with the Australian Museum and the Manly Environment Center last year.
MANLY ENVIRONMENT CENTER
Although being involved in these exhibitions and prizes gives me great pleasure and creating these Gem2 works for art lovers is exciting, the true heart of my work comes from the knowledge that proceeds from my work has always gone towards helping the Manly Environment Center.  Often I think we forget that these smaller close to home organizations are even there. I support larger concerns too but I ask everyone to look local, change happens right on your doorstep and if you live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney or use them, check them out, drop in and check out their calendar of events. If you live somewhere else... have a look at what is in your area. Local council is a good place to ask.

THE MERMAID MUSE
So today I'm sharing a special one that is swimming home to Gem Green-Sweedman of CryshellMagic tomorrow.
I was inspired by Gem's magical creations born of crystals and shells to create this Mermaid Muse and hope that she reminds her that the world is there before her. The muse is there to support her because she knows the love and intent behind her artwork is true. Anything is possible whispers the Mermaid Muse.
I hand sculpt the faces of my girls and guys and animal friends then everything else is reclaimed waste, found and gifted treasures!

Lino print FUN!!!!

Studioflowers2 I am sure I've spoken about my other great arty love... Linocutting!! It's been a very long time but I'm really enjoying getting back into it. A few months aho I set myself back up and have been BUSY BUSY....These photos show my first stages with a favourite of everyone.... Flannel Flowers.... I'll be posting  a couple of completed artworks online this week.
EXHIBITION
I have a room at the International Environmental Conference to fill with my work later this year and I decided that the perfect compliment to my sculptures would be lino prints.

Although I do paint and draw and there are times for these, it;s the raw earthy play of lines that I feel works with my sculptures the best at present.
Along with my prints, I have been developing a little Field Guide of  Australian WildFlowers. I am forever immersing myself in my subjects to create art pieces that are the true essence as they are and as I then relate personally to them and then communicate.
Book1 FIELD GUIDE BOOK
This time I decided to actually put my research to paper... nice paper! Books I've been reading along the way included those that describe the lives of the great and not so greatly known female flower painters. Not only those who painted for the joy and artistic development of the subject but those who had a real passion for describing their environment and wanting to leave a documented legacy of their findings.  Ellis Rowan as my close friends know is my hero.
My research is including snippets of cultivation facts along with deeper meanings, indigenous, medicinal and personnel. I am so loving this journey. To go beyond the surface of something I'm drawn to is usual, to then organize and commit to a greater project has been sublime. I'm going to make little handmade books once I'm done that will be available at the exhibition. (another old time pursuit!)
Oh and the art period!! Art Nouveau! so excited about this.  I get to use my calligraphy pens all over again too :)
Rough1 AVAILABLE PRINTS & WORKSHOPS
< this is play stage!
As I have a real passion for putting art into the hands of everyone, my prints will be available in a few formats (plain print, hand coloured, framed and unframed) I will be making these available in two of the flowers in the next week. STAY TUNED! Don't ask... ANSWER: YES Flannel Flowers will be one  :)

And YES there will be workshops later this year.
As soon as I'm finished this series... I'm up to 17 Australian Wildflowers already! I'm heading overseas... not physically :) ... Flower Hunting style to take up another series.
YOUR ART
My little arty message today is DO WHAT YOU LOVE. I've never once strained over WHAT to make or been stuck for inspiration.
Your art isn't just what your hands create, it's what your heart feels.

Workshops!

 I'm READY! :D
A bazillion years ago I taught art and craft. Loved it! Life and study and my own artwork in particular took over and I didn't have the time or energy to keep doing it. But I've always missed it.
The time has come she said!... and this is why....
I have adored exhibiting my work but I get sad when people say they can't do it or they wish they could. I read tarot and I get frustrated when people say, they can't or it's too complicated or they know the basics but now where do they go?
I make jewellery and people say "I'm not THAt clever"
Yes you are, yes you can and you will have a lot of fun doing it, with others who want to learn too.
I've found a gorgeous little Cafe in the quiet Frenchs Forest area which I've turned into a Magick Workshop when it's closed it's doors at night.  Loads of parking & lots of peace for meditations too.
I have lots of plans for the future... so stay tuned.
A Tarot Journaling group is on the cards (sorry!).... as it's something I'm very passionate about and I am talking Art Journaling here... no art or writing experience needed,  just a love of tarot.

So first two workshops are up
Intuitive Tarot  Monday 4th July
Astrology Chart Necklace
25th July
There will be Fun!
  ItFLYER
10% of  my workshop income is donated to the Manly Environment Centre for local environment projects including the protection of the Little Penguins.

Interviews, Clothes and Arty Things!

Just did an interview and I was introduced as 'environmental and SPIRITUAL artist' mmmm not really into labels and was about to correct when I though *well I guess I am* :) GREAT fun... hard with croaky voice though! Thought I sounded sexy at the time but listening back I sounded like a little old lady! VERY funny :o
Fingers crossed I can pull it together for my Tarot Guild presentation tonight.
Have been busy with my flower lino prints for the Environmental Conference in September and should have the very first available soon.  My little Australian Wildflower Oracle Fieldguide is coming along very well with this enforced bedrest!! Want so much to share my first Flower Sculptures but you have to be patient. :)  In the meantime there are still Mermaids to finish and birds (this is an old fav bird..need new ones for this exhibition!) to get done!~
Clothes! There's always clothes!!....
Il_570xN.242065724 I have a few friends who have purchased this amazingly talented artist's clothes... coats of all sizes and designs and glorious colours, gypsy dresses and scarves... GORGEOUS!
I'm saving up and looking out for something special myself :)
If you are on FACEBOOK... go to her page
Wunjo Crow and hit "LIKE" she runs wonderful promotions where you can win items from time to time.
She also runs an Etsy shop
Kye Crow Sacred Clothing

Profits of her hand made creations assist in the running of her Animal Sanctuary

Don't forget for my artist friends... the Warringah Art Prize is closing soon... they are still taking submissions

ANd I'm taking submissions for Yindela Street Cafe exhibitions and for the upcoming group show "Local Birds" Art Space@Yindela
