Shop Opens TODAY!

I know it's taken me a while to get this happening.
But here we are... everyone is scared of Etsy and it's annoying not being able to see the price in Aussie Dollars and Ebay is not really the place for art.
Group1Madeit_header72dpi-new I found an Australian site Made It and I'm sticking with them.
At the moment I have my little miniatures in my shop online here and will be adding larger works and YES jewellery (if and when I can part with pieces) soon.
So here's my shop... will adding things pretty much daily this week.

My Tiny Assemblage Dolls are going on today, gift boxed and with a beautiful parchment collectors folder.

The News.

OK everyone, something is going to hit the papers tomorrow because I stood up.
My daughters' Year 12 Maths class has been teacherless since the beginning of the year.
After finding out NOT from the school but from my daughter, I questioned the School and got NOWHERE.
I pleaded with the Education Department and was told that they weren't the only class in this situation and there was reallly not much they could do.
I then went to my local member who, thankfully LISTENED.
He has taken it to the papers and what do you know?!
ACTION. AT LAST, but unfortunately along with that is cover ups, undated letters and twisted information. I've been inundated with phone calls today. I've made my point, those defending all this know I'm right and there wasn't going to be a fix to this problem anytime soon until I jumped up and down.
I have no 'axe to grind' with anyone. I'm just a Mum who wanted a teacher for not only her child but every child, especially going into the HSC. I voted for Kevin Rudd, think Julia Gillard is actually an inspirational woman. All I want is teachers for our kids.

Someone once told me... "You have to stand up for something or you will fall for anything."

Opening Night Necklace.

Tree1 Frantic text message... "Help! Need a fab necklace for my Opening Night Cheri!!!!!!! oh with a Tree"

Rachel Carroll is awesome, an Environmentalist, a Goddesses of the Forest, a friend of the Birds but most of all an Artist that never fails to inspire me with the beauty and soul of her work. Oh and she's been a wonderful friend and cheerleader when I've needed it. Yes I have loads of doubts and fears re my work and Rachel is ALWAYS there to bring the sunshine in!
So here we are.... Opening Night with Tree.
Created from lost bits of things, hey that's the BEST kinda jewellery!!!
Opening Night... come along... or get to the show while it's on. Details

Artist Statements

Crystals1 If there is one part of my work which I find challenging and at times frustrating, it would have to be writing artist statements. It's something I hear other artists moan about and I feel it's because we are visual communicators. Some of us are lucky enough to put it all down in beautiful prose as well but I'm not one of them!
I feel that I've said it all while creating a piece and that my work is about you understanding what I'm saying by experiencing it first hand.  I'm sure you will cast your own interpretations. That's what I love hearing from people.
So the dreaded requested statement. At one show last year, "Group" at Dick Street Chippendale, I simply wrote, "I liked the invitation poster so went with it" because really that's exactly what I did. Yes there where lots of inspirations and 'messages' but they where very ovious and the heart of the body of work was that old B Grade Horror movie picture they put on the poster!

So here comes the next exhibition "Body Mod - Rehash", Polymorph Newtown....  this series "Princesses of Perfection", needs a little introduction as I've steered a tiny bit left of  field from the group at this show.

First up the Gallery Statement

Polymorph Art Gallery is celebrating 1 year of artistic discourse with a group exhibit that honors one of art's greatest and most recent traditions... rehashing. That's right, we're once again exploring the body as a site of conflict and controversy, expression and representation.
The body has been contorted through every phase of art's cycle, through every era of humanity's civilization; we've cut it up, inked it up, dissected it, idealized it, burnt it, skinned it, painted it, pruned it... Our bodies become a constant revisualization of who we are and where we are going as they qualify and modify us in the same moment.

'Body Mod' intends to provide a platform for artists to discuss this contortion of the body with identity, the modification of flesh through representation and the contortion and modification of the physical body itself. Some of the immaculate concepts revolve around physical limits, age and life spans as well as avenues of sexuality and gender.

Princesses of Perfection

The blueprint society provides us for the β€˜new me’ is communicated via the media and exampled by celebrities.
It’s an emancipated Barbie Doll, flamingoed legs, huge tits, drum tight expressionless face, overstuffed sausage lips. She’s a cougar feminist dressed like a stripper doing the work of nuns in war torn countries while adopting children, having her own and releasing award winning albums and movies, never ageing, with a silent adoring 20 year younger Ken on her arm.
A Princess of Perfection.
Adored and ridiculed but always secretly coveted.
At least externally, I too can get it all now at the local Shopping Mall in the fastest growing franchise in the world, the walk in plastic injection/surgery day spa. Not only can I get Botox and Lemon Detox for lunch and new breasts and liposuction for dinner , I can have my legs lengthened, toes remodeled, eyes reshaped, arse lifted, naval replaced and collar bones enhanced for breakfast!
Where will it end?
First in my series and possibly my conclusion shown above "If My Eyes Where made of Crystals, Would My Heart Finally See?"

Here's a hint and YES she's on the studio bench as I type this!! No sneeky peeks... I want this girl to have a grand entrance.
Will be completed in a few days... stand by for pics then.
Lots of hand dyed  silks for these girls!!
It's a big series and I'm looking at exhibiting this one solo in November. Looking at venues/galleries now. In fact today! :)

Bike Angels going well... more pics this afternoon... sorry but I'm in clean up mode today and busy venue hunting... studio flooded AGAIN last night :( oh well. At least I learnt my lesson from last week and everything on the floor is in plastic containers.

REHASH... Annual Bod Mod Show at Polymorph

Yeap I'm in! Was thinking of standing aside as my daughter, Maddison is in too! But she's excited for us to do this together. I'm a sculptor, as is she, but this time round (and her FIRST ever exhibition at the age of 16) she is presenting a selection of her drawings...2003 01 16 008 my work is looking at how we as women feel the need to Rehash ourselves, look better, feel more, earn more, have more, be more. The first and possibly the answer... "If My Eyes Where Made of Crystals, Would My Heart Finally See?"

Start Time:
Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 7:30pm

Goodbye to an Amazing Guy.

Alexander-mcqueen-3 I'm not a fashion follower at all but I did love the work of Lee McQueen. Those elaborate headdresses and the look he created with his models  where one of the inspirations for my Assemblage Dolls.
Alexander McQueen antlers aw 2006 Sad day... my thoughts are with all those close to him and I'm sad that the world has lost a guy who had such a creative and inspiring vision.
Journey well, thank you for the gift of inspiration you gave me Lee McQueen.

Tour de Cure Bike Angels... part 4

Photo(11)My girl really came together last night. Had a few annoying moments with her nose, but she is now ready for her 'makeup' today.
Oh and dress is happily setting too. This one should be completed Thursday night and I hope to have it at Energize Health Club, Friday.
Photos will come a little faster the next two days as I'm full time in the studio.

Thanks for different calls and comments and emails. OK I did lose a bit but it's NOTHING considering ESPECIALLY as today marks a year since Black Saturday. Elbow grease expended, 'things' lost and a smelly house... but in perspective it's really nothing to moan about at all.
