❁ This Magickal Gardening Week ~ broccoli, snapping dragons & the celery forest

It's a busy week with my work as I complete illustrations for my fourth Flower deck which will be released early next year and I'm sure being lost each day in the dreamy tones of spring in these delicate watercolours is no coincidence. I have found I work best when what I am creating aligns with the turning seasons, with what is occurring in my garden and environment. The energy, messages and wisdom I am then sharing through my writing and art is pure and clear.

A few Flowers in my garden this week ~

Snapdragons!
Antirrhinum
I planted these out last year and it is a joy to see their return. Chattering to each other in a quiet corner of my back garden, they seem to hold court while watching over their soon to arrive flower friends, daisy, jasmine and cornflower.
The Language of Flowers: truth~telling, grace, secrets, "I long for you"

Bottlebrush
Callistemon
Oh it is time for cleansing away the sleepiness of winter, of letting go of the dream~state and awakening and so Bottlebrush is making a most welcome appearance not only in my garden but naturally everywhere!
The Language of Flowers: balance, cleansing, clarity "I understand"

Pigface
Carpobrotus
Nothing speaks to me of childhood summers really like these. They grew in abundance in the rockeries of my grandparents home.
Perfectly strong, yet somehow a little unreal with their bright petals springing forth from leaves which to my eye, never really looked somehow matched to these flowers.
The Language of Flowers: survival, tenacity, forgiveness "I forgive and let go"

Calendula
Calendula officinalis
So blessed with the love of this plant. She is growing so well nestled next to my Wormwood with brilliant orange faces greeting each dawn.
The Language of Flowers: contentment, cleansing, healing "I am grateful"

And so the Veggie Garden
It is time to harvest the last of Winter and so prepare for Summer. Memories of rosy red tomatoes and crisp green lettuce are enticing me to being the preparation of the soil, to rest some areas, to work others so all will be ready. The chill is leaving our mornings and nights and the earth is opening, warming and ready to welcome the plants of the coming seasons.

Harvest this week:

Celery
We have been enjoying celery for weeks and weeks but we are heading into a very abundant time and I'm loving adding it to juices and just about everything from frittatas to asian dishes.

Celery

Broccoli
The time is over for nibbling as we delight in the very last of this year's crop. One of my all time favourite vegetables, I'm personally just about living on it and the taste is amazing. Steamed with a tiny bit of lemon juice ~ YUM!

Herbs
Well I'm constantly harvesting herbs, its the best way to ensure they grow but right now I have a really bumper amount of thyme, rosemary, wormwood, vervain, calendula, parsley, rocket and society garlic.

FLOWER OF THE DAY ❁ Frangipani (Plumeria alba)

Flower Affirmation ~ "I am happy and free"

Frangipani new photo webcards

Will Assist You ~
by helping boost your confidence and showing you where you may find greater freedoms and harmony. Releasing you from what holds you. If you are looking at taking a break or a holiday, Frangipani helps you to really enjoy yourself and to recharge.
Language of Nature, Flowers and Plants Oracle ~
The true feelings of yourself or another are in focus at the moment so be sure that you take notice. If you are looking for the answer to something, it is yes or positive in it's outcome.
Opportunities for holidays, rest, as well as renewal and even beginnings is surfacing for you.
Be very careful not to take anything at face value right now and step carefully because you will be fully held accountable for your actions at this time.
Gardening Note ~
So easy to grow in most warmer climates. They do not like the cold and prefer a war sunny spot for best growth. I've always grown mine from the cuttings and found that although you can just stick them in the ground, for the best and strongest growth, dry them out in a cool dry place for 6 weeks and then plant on top of a fish in sandy soil or you could just use Seasol :)
Flower Lore ~
Oh there are so many wondrous histories connected with Frangipani. Two of my favourites which I practice myself ~
you must wake them up each morning as some Asian Monks do by gentle knocking on them.
Another, from South America, is to always plant them at the front of cemeteries or your home so that evil spirits are confused by their scent and pass by.

May Nature Bless you always,
Cheralyn Darcey xx

❁ In Casa Darcey Garden this Week ~ Rainbows, Artichokes, Sweet Verburnum

My days are filled with weeding at the moment. It's amazing how a few weeks of looking over a section can let those little goblins creep in isn't it!? My Sweet Viburnum hedge (Viburnuma Odoratissimum) was hiding a tiny forest of them. With all that early nursing I had to do to establish it, I did provide a very fertile ground which proved irresistible to weeds and stray grass. For those who missed the Facebook posts about it, I had a lot of early winter wind damage to my veggie garden from the southerly storms and winds so I have planted this hedge as a break. It's fast growing, will be high and very thick so it's perfect for the job oh and it has lovely pretty scented flowers too! I know you can tame it to be very formal but I'm keen to let it grow as it pleases with only minor trimming. It will also create a little private section which I'm going to create a table setting of some sort in.
Vegges we are enjoying at the table right now are Bok Choy, Lettuce, Celery, Spinach, Baby Carrots and French Beans.

meanings ~ flexibility, calm amidst turmoil, great to assist you in staying on longer paths and with long range goals.

Rainbow
A rainbow was a blessing to see over my Veggie Garden.
The new picket fence and gate, we had loads of fun building,
has provided a safe haven for my
Vegetables and Herbs which are planted for culinary, medicinal and magickal uses.
To capture the sunlight, I've not wasted the fence line
by adding planters of additional herbs.
Pandorea will not only attract bees but eventually form a tunnel to the garden
with the addition on two more arches.

FLOWER OF THE DAY ~ ❁ Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

❁ Flower Affirmation ~
My strength and courage is growing.

Thyme webcards

This image is from my Veggie Garden this morning and perhaps the message I know this special herb brings may connect with some of you too.
*please feel free to download, keep and to share online if you wish

❁  Will Assist By ~
Helping you to relax, increasing your psychic abilities, protecting you from nightmares and ridding areas of negative energies.

❁  The Language of Flowers Oracle ~
You may be tested some way soon but you do have the courage and the strength to overcome. Do not let fanciful dramatic fantasy overtake what is actually going on. There is an indication of a change in such for the better and you may even find yourself to occur of another's desires.

❁  Flower Lore ~
The Ancient Greeks had a fondest of Thyme as a herb of purification and they thought it particularly useful in walking away the sorrows or ill health and fortune one might have and their soldiers used it in their bathing to enhance their courage. The Ancient Roman soldiers believed it gave them the physical energy they required for battle and would bath in it for this purpose. In Medieval times it was a popular motif for Knights as it was believed both courage and strength are assured through it's symbolism.
Thyme will assist you to see Faeries, in fact, this herb is strongly connected with the Fae and I have found many mentions of such through cultural references and literature. It would see that the Faeries adore Thyme and use it to decorate their gatherings.
Collecting Thyme on Midsummer Day, then creating a mist from it to dose trees at the Solstice will ensure the very best growth. ~ There are many variations of this recipe but most include thyme as a base with the addition of rosewater and marigold and other flowers and herbs to produce a charm or eyewash to enable one to see Faeries. Here is one I have shared for a few years now  ~

Flora faeries copy

❁  Gardening Notes ~
Thyme is a slow growing plant to grow from from seed and is best propagated from cuttings and by dividing roots. Best grown in a greenhouse or indoors. Transplant young plants into  final positions, in full sun with well-drained soil. Don't overdo harvest in the first year and always water sparingly once established. Thyme has the most flavour in Summer and be sure to mulch well around the plant to protect the roots in winter, particularly if frosty.

bunches of blessings,
Cheralyn  ❁ xx

*always remember the energy of a flower is held throughout the entire plant. It does not need to be in flower for your to benefit from connection with it. THIS WEEK: Mother's Day, How to draw flowers, Workshops, MBS news and Harvesting!

It's actually been a difficult week.
Disappointments. Frustration and bit of heartache, but that's life and crappy things happen at times. It's how you handle yourself as you move on that matters most. I was blindsided by an event that I did not anticipate but I'm ok with it now as the dust settles. Sometimes we need these things to occur so we can understand ourselves more clearly, question what we really want in life and then move on with more clarity than perhaps before. When we fall, when we are holding on with fingertips, if we focus on our reactions, we can notice what it is we want to hold on to and where it is we want to end up. What makes us passionate reveals what matters most to us.

StUdio Notes
This week I have completed another work for an upcoming Flower deck in oils & mixed media. Loving the depth and the meanings that I'm exploring as I write alongside this body of work. I'm not sure when I'll be releasing this deck as I do have a few things to work out and deciding on how it will be published is one of them. My artistic challenges have been letting go of my current deck style (a type of naive expressionism) for a more traditional approach as I feel this lends itself more to the concept of this body of work. Inspirations are Russian Zhostovo Folk style painting, the light of the Flemish Primitives and the richness of the still life works of the 17th Century Northern European floral subject artists. This deck will be complete by the end of June.

Art 1

Concurrently, I am working, as always on my long term project:  my Garden Oracle. It's been a very long process as I want to work through the year of a garden and put those experiences within the deck. As I need more than one temperate zone and one garden, I've worked through many years to make this happen. The conversations with many of you and shared experiences have enriched so much of what I do and I can not wait to begin sharing a little more of the art and the nature of this body of work very soon. Once my next Flower Deck is complete, I will be ready to start sharing a bit more.
Those who have been following progress? SOON!

The key is practice. You might even like to grab some tracing paper and trace this worksheet a few times first. Then, once you are confident enough to draw a waratah from start to finish alone, practice. Extend yourself and try variations. Invest in a pocket sketchbook and little pencil and sketch whenever you have a spare moment. Pretty soon you will be drawing bunches of beautiful Waratahs!
Enjoy and yes it's ok to share and download.

Border 2MotHer's DAy
Happiest of Mother's Day Blessings and joy to everyone.
As a Mother with my own children apart from me today, I did wake feeling a bit sad but then it turned to slow rising joy as I realised the lesson of Chrysanthemum, LIFE.
Webcards chrysanthemum 2

To give life is to give space, to create and to let go and to be optimistic for what may come. To understand that there will be cycles of rebirth (you will get to directly nurture again) but like the pulling in of the flower after it's time, you need to again release until you are called again by the seasons and cycles of Life.
My children can not be with me today because they are following their dreams and I am so very proud of them for that. Today they are working in jobs that they love completely, both caring for others in very different ways but none the less, with a commitment and care that makes me incredibly proud. So I'm happy to be a Mum today and stand back while my children plant their own dreams in places and in ways I might never of dreamt myself.
I also think of Mother's Day as so much more than just the direct maternal bond, but also in the connections and commitments we make to others. To care, to help with life through nurturing, providing a place in our hearts, at our tables, studios and in our spaces to be heard and supported and encouraged. To those of you who care and nurture others, our earth, our creatures, ideas and creations of care and hope, I wish you many happy blessings and thanks for all you do.

FLOWER OF THE DAY ~ Rosemary (Rosmarinus officials) MEMORY

FLOWER OF THE DAY ~ Rosemary (Rosmarinus officials) MEMORY

WEB CARDS Rosemary 4

*if you click on the image, you will go to a full sized version which you ca download, print out or even share online.

I wear a silver heart shaped locket in which I keep various herbs and flowers and if you have ever sat with me in person, in a presentation, you will notice I often smell it. :) Well thats because I fill it with fresh Rosemary and I inhale it to clear my mind and to give me the added mental strength to teach.
It is a type of mental gymnastic to teach others. One must be very aware of the various skill and interest levels within a group of people and of their needs and abilities. Teaching isn't about simply standing up and dropping down what you know in front of everyone, it's interacting and sharing, listening and thinking! A teacher is always thinking.
I find Rosemary my best friend for this because it strengthens the mind, clears it from rubble, protects and it also assists one to remember! Though I can share in an instant myths, stories, folk~law and botanical history very well on most plants, sometimes I do forget names, dates and places. I'm human!
I'm also studying right now (business topics!) and again, Rosemary, assists me to stay on track, remember what I need to as I go along and to stay mentally strong.
To give someone Rosemary is to say, "I remember" to plant it around your home, the same. I would most definitely be planting it in Vegetable gardens to offer protection, to assist you in learning from nature and to connect your love with place and action.
Rosemary has been used in love potions because of the association with the Goddess Venus as it is said she arose from the sea draped in Rosemary. I feel that there is perhaps much to learn here as to hold one in your memory fondly is to love. I often this of Venus and the beginning of love, we forget how it was and the essence of what began our love. It's a moment that brings clarity when we lose our way in love. In many cultures through history, brides held rosemary in their bouquets for it was said this would ensure the couple would remember their vows, their beginning of a binding of love.
I personally find Rosemary assists in helping one find clarity in their romantic lives. A flower and plant connected with love and mental clarity as well as memory really has a wonderful combination all on it's own to work with don't you think?
I'm back to my studies. With my Rosemary.
Wishing you everything you need, you find with respect in Nature!
Love,
Cheralyn xx

Casa Darcey Video Update!

Hello!!!!!!
A full video update on what Casa Darcey looks like this month. It's been such a challenge renovating DIY style
and still working on publishing contracts for next year I have to say but so so worth it!

House december video

I am lucky that I have my Studio defined within the space and I keep funny hours so that I can continue working
and renovating at the same time.

Mr Darcey doesn't garden but helps me out as the extra pair of hands when it comes to real heavy stuff
and I actually don't do the painting as it's something he really enjoys.

So come walk through the gardens and house this week ~

Garden Oracle

Why ~ yes!!!!!
I've been working on a 'Garden Oracle' for a very long time already. A few messages and comments in groups today asking this question.

My Veggie Garden Today
My Veggie Garden Today

It's still going to take probably another year or two until I have all the research and have finished writing it as it will be a lot bigger in a lot of ways than my other works... but, you have already seen the style of artwork, many many times scattered through my posts and social media. ;)
To connect with Earth Magick, you should grow something! You should grow everything!!
There is no way I could of researched and written all my work or created the art that goes with it unless I'd spent a lifetime gardening. No matter where I have found myself, I have grown plants and the rewards are immense. Being with the earth, working with it, every day, that is where the magick starts. You have to do it yourself. So a dedicated Garden Oracle is only natural and it's something that I have been very immersed in for a very very long time.

FB timeline garden

Thanks for the 'suggestions' and interest in my work. xx
